Pan-European debate in Brussels
Illegal immigration, waste of food and public liberties are topics which are playing an important role in the EU – and also in the daily life of many people. But too often, politicians avoid talking about them. On the 12th of November the EU-Parliamentarians, students from all over Europe and journalists from Euranet will debate about these topics, broadcast live online and on air.
Euranet, the EUropean RAdio NETwork, has broadcasted news for more than six month now. To introduce this work to a wider range of people, the Euranet team is organising a debate in ten languages on the 12th of November 2008 at the European Parliament.
Debate with leading officials
The main topic of the debate will be about the troubled relationship between the European Union and its citizens. The President of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering, and other leading EU officials will join in the debate with students from various member states. The central question revolves around how the European Union can become more concrete for Europeans. Because for many Europeans, Europe is just a vague idea instead of a real institution with important regulatory functions. The debate will raise a range of themes, from immigration and climate change to intercultural dialogue and public liberties.
The Euranet University Circle
Journalism and language students will be putting their questions to the invited EU-experts. The students come from the Euranet University Circle which includes the universities of Cambridge (UK), Aachen (Germany), Ecole Nationale d’Administration (France), IHECS (Belgium), Roosevelt Academy (the Netherlands), Babes-Bolyai (Romania) and the radio school Eur@dionantes (France). The lively debate will take place on 12th of November 2008 between 5 and 8 p.m. in the central auditorium of the European Parliament. To bring the debate to all Euranet users, the complete discussions will be broadcastes? live on the Euranet site and parts of them on radio as well.
This is Euranet

The site will provide access to multimedia dossiers about major European issues, which will be produced in cooperation with the partner stations and available in the nine Euranet languages. The Euranet Online Community (...more) will be supported by the Euranet University Circle.
