Passengers wait for rescue in frozen Baltic Sea

Icebreakers have been deployed to free approximately 50 vessels trapped by ice off the coast of Sweden. All the ships between Stockholm and the Aland Islands have now been freed but there are plenty more further north still waiting for the icebreakers to clear their path home.

Belgian passenger trains collide

A head-on crash between two commuter trains in Belgium this morning has left at least 18 people dead and over 150 injured. And there are fears the death toll could rise further still.

Slovak security left red-faced in explosives bungle

A section of inner-city Dublin was sealed off yesterday as an anti-terrorist unit swooped on the home of a man who unwittingly smuggled in explosives planted in his luggage by the Slovakian security services.
